In 2011, pioneering promoters Ibiza Rocks took over iconic Ibizan institution Pikes – originally named after its founder and all-round party legend Tony Pike. Tony transformed the 500 year old farmhouse into a legendary boutique sanctuary and party playground for the stars. Thanks to Tony, who remains a full time resident to this day, Pikes was the hotel of choice for the music and fashion elite of the 80’s & 90’s including his one time lover Grace Jones as well as Julio Iglesias, Spandau Ballet, Bon Jovi, Naomi Campbell, Kylie Minogue and Wham who immortalized the famous pool when they filmed Club Tropicana at Pikes. Check out the barman in the video…look familiar?
"Pikes was put on the musical map by providing the set to Wham’s infamous Club Tropicana video. The song was released in July 1983 and peaked at #4 in the UK, going on to become the 39th best selling single of 1983. Soon after its release stars started flocking to Pikes’ luxurious offerings, eagerly wanting to experience firsthand lounging by the pool with cocktails (ala an 18 year old adonis George Michael), and bask in the sun, sand, and scantily clad sights"
One of the most famous guests was Freddie Mercury who threw his legendary 41st Birthday Party here and the suite it was held in - complete with DJ booth, Bar and jacuzzi bathtub, is now named ‘Freddie’s’ in his honour and has become the ultimate back-to-mine party venue for those in the know.
"I want the party to start at 7.30 my time, not Ibiza time, Freddie Mercury time. And I want every guest (500) to be welcomed with a cold glass of the best champagne.’ So Tony set to work to create a party still talked about to this day, consisting of Flamenco dancers, a huge firework display spelling Freddie’s name and the whole hotel covered in black and gold helium balloons."
"Tony makes no secret that his favourite guest was Freddie Mercury. ‘That man had so much flamboyance; he was a true entertainer, the most colourful character I’ve ever met. The greatest man I’ve encountered in my life."
Rocks rekindled the real island party scene by breathing fresh life into Pikes, paying tribute to its legacy and hosting some of the islands most memorable parties in recent years. Having revived an authentic, unique, creative hub of entertainment and hospitality and loved by bands, DJs, islanders and industry insiders, Ibiza Rocks House is truly at the heart of Ibiza nocturnal activity for those in the know. Brimming with personality, rock and roll heritage and hedonism, this hidden gem in the hills is one of the few places that still represents the authentic, carefree, Balearic vibe of an increasingly by gone Ibiza era. It’s the people at the heart of the party and just like Tony intended, it’s individuality, personality and eccentricity that continue to be celebrated, all summer long.
